My name is Serah. This is my story.
I always dreamed of being a philanthropist. I spent my childhood documenting my life and planning for when I was grown and could give back to others but life had other plans. I had a child at nineteen, and it changed the trajectory of my life as I did not have support. I had to figure things out, and things were hard. I worked seven days a week, I worked in countless industries, and nothing stuck long enough working under other people who decided how work should be completed.
I had a vision, and understood work could be done differently. This became very clear when I started bookkeeping, which I stumbled on via happenstance. Some might say it was kismet, but I believe in being in the right place at the right time. Some might say its the same thing but regardless, I quit the finance industry multiple times because I am a creative. I wanted to be an artist, a writer, a dancer. I did not see myself as a bookkeeper and, bookkeeping time and time again proved to me that it could provide. So after years of working on and off in bookkeeping roles and balancing it with public school and Montessori teaching, I finally realized I had a gift and set out to support business owners and organize their money.
In tandem with my work, I was suffering at the hands of a very intense domestic abuse situation with my child's father. I have learned that I am more resilient than most, and I have created tools from my sheer determination to change the circumstances of my life from $500 per month on welfare to $100,000 per year self employed in a very short period of time. I have deeply suffered, and I have made many business mistakes, and I have grown, and all this I want to share with you.
In collaborating with clients, I witnessed all sorts of behaviors: untrustworthy bookkeepers, neurotic brilliant biz owners, tense office situations and realized I do best working out of the comfort of my own home, so in 2017, I stopped offering in person services. I quit my in-person job in Marin, and took solely work from home opportunities for a few local CPA's. In this, I learned so much about different industries and best business practices to keeping organized books.*
Over time, I realized I had a gift for efficient accuracy and an ability to support people to have an understanding of their books. My teaching background and temperament have equipped me with tools to pivot to holistic financial consulting and biz coaching.
As I have both left and right brain strengths, I can better support people learning to do their books who struggle with other more left brain thinkers. My work as a storyteller and as an oral historian informs the way that I support clients in setting up a system for their day to day accounting. Although I am no longer involved in the day to day work, I do find joy in supporting clients to create a system that works for them and supports clear financials and biz operations.
Another facet of my work is money healing. Money equals freedom, and I would like to empower more women to feel that they have the tools and the wherewithal to support themselves. Believe me, organized finances and a positive money mindset can be obtained, and you can find joy in the process.
On collaborating style:
I am someone who is not judgmental and will make you feel safe in collaboration. With this, I am compassionately boundaried, and will keep us focused on the framework of what you would like to accomplish together.
My overall goal is to reduce the stigma and shame around money so that people can feel empowered, have financial freedom, less overdraft fees, and be able to build a legacy or simply purchase a home.
*Books refers to the accounting system used to track your income and expenses.

Education
I don't believe education defines who we are and what we can do however, if you are curious, I can share a bit about my background.
I have collaborated with CPA's and Financial Advisors since 2010 or so. I am a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, Xero certified, and currently working on my Gusto certification.
I have formal studies in Apparel Design and Merchandising, which I started in 2009 and finished during the pandemic in 2021.
I have formal education in Early Childhood Education, which helps me provide information in a clear and digestible manner.
I have certification in Italian, and currently working towards a degree in Linguistic Anthropology along with a Human Design certfication.
I do not believe you need to study numbers to be good at them, but I do believe you need to study people to be able to support them.
